Behind The Story: Hats Off Vamsi

When the unit of the movie 'Oopiri' decided that it would be the apt title for their film, they were disappointed to know that it was unavailable. Actor Raja Ravindra had registered it.

So, they went to Raja Ravindra and requested him to give them that title. Director Vamsi Pydapalli provided the latter with a further incentive by promising Ravindra, a character of a police officer in the film.

Now Raja Ravindra is making a comeback of sorts as a character artiste and looking for roles. He was seen in recent releases ‘Seethamma Andalu….Ramayya Sitralu’ and ‘Guntur Talkies’.

Pleased with the offer, Raja Ravindra went to their office and signed over the title ‘Oopiri’ to them. But he got the shock of his life on location when he found that the role of police officer was a highly insignificant with just a single dialogue and which could be done by any junior artiste. But there being nothing he could do about it, he did the role and left.

And to add insult to injury, he wasn’t even invited to the audio launch of ‘Oopiri’. When Ravindra asked the director, the latter replied that he forgot to invite him as he was preoccupied with other matters.

Poor Raja Ravindra! But why should they care about him once they had got the title from him and that too free of cost?
