Love rivalry led to stabbing of Praveen Reddy

UK police tell victim Praveen Reddy’s family that he and main accused Charan Raj were in love with the same girl; cops arrest three Indian students, rule out racism angle

It was allegedly an Indian love triangle on foreign land that resulted in Hyderabad youth Jangam Praveen Reddy (27) being stabbed by his friend in London on Friday night.

The Metropolitan Police in London on Sunday arrested three Indian students, Arava Amareswar, Balguri Sai Kishore and Nishant Puttapaka, and booked them in the attempt to murder case. The trio will appear at the Thames Magistrates’ court on Monday.

The police are now looking out for Praveen’s friend Charan Raj and a girl, who was present at the party.

A member from Praveen’s family told Mumbai Mirror on Sunday that an investigating officer from Scotland Yard informed them that Praveen and Charan were in love with the same girl (name withheld).

“Praveen was depressed that she was getting closer to Charan,” said the family member, adding that she lived at LB Nagar in Hyderabad before going to London for further studies. All the youths are from LB Nagar, except Charan, who lived at Chaitanyapuri.

Praveen’s kin said that during interrogation, the 11 detained youths had told the cops that they were celebrating Charan’s birthday at Praveen’s apartment at Newham.

However, after few drinks, Charan and Praveen got into an argument. In a fit of rage, Praveen hit Charan with a pressure cooker, while the latter allegedly stabbed Praveen eight times with a kitchen knife.

Charan and the girl allegedly fled  the spot leaving Praveen in a pool of blood.

Currently, Praveen is undergoing treatment at the Royal London Hospital. “He showed signs of improvement after Saturday’s surgery but is still critical,” said Praveen’s elder brother Jayakar.

On Sunday, Praveen’s father Sudhakar and his uncle Mohan left for London. The two men were issued visas after External Affairs Minister S M Krishna spoke to the Acting High Commissioner in the UK Rajesh Prasad and asked him to extend all support to the Reddys.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police have ruled out any racial angle to the incident.
