India Gets a Third Gender Now

A landmark judgment has been passed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. It has granted recognition for the Transgenders as a third category of gender in India.

The highest court has passed orders to all the states that facilities like healthcare and education should be provided for the Transgenders, as they are a socially backward community.

The population of Transgenders in India has been increasing and many incidents are being reported about their discrimination in the society.

Supreme Court has expressed its concerns over the harassment and discrimination towards the Transgenders and directed the government to take necessary steps to ensure safety for them.

The court has said that Transgenders are the citizens of India and they have got all the equal rights to education, employment and social acceptability. Transgenders across the country expressed their happiness that they have been given same rights as Men and Women.
