The absence of Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy from the Republic Day celebrations in Hyderabad created interesting speculations in the political and media circles, as there is no official information yet on his whereabouts during the key state event.
In his place, deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended the celebrations on behalf of the government at the main event addressed by governor Jishnu Dev Varma that took place at the Secunderabad parade grounds, triggering questions from opposition parties and sections of the media.
The absence comes amid reports that Revanth Reddy, who had travelled to Switzerland to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos, has not been seen publicly there since January 22.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi mouth piece Namaste Telangana and other pro-BRS media oulets have claimed that the chief minister may have left Davos prematurely and travelled to the United States.
According to these reports, Revanth Reddy is alleged to have quietly departed Switzerland for New York, accompanied by close associates, including Rohin Reddy and another aide.
They have questioned why such a visit, even if personal, would take place without any official communication, especially when the chief minister was expected to return for Republic Day engagements.
One media organisation went further, claiming it had evidence that Revanth Reddy stayed at New York’s upscale Plaza Hotel, though these allegations have not been independently verified so far.
The episode has renewed debate over transparency and accountability, with opposition voices arguing that it is unusual for the public to remain uninformed about the chief minister’s location during an overseas tour, particularly when he is absent from a major national occasion.
With no official statement yet explaining his absence from the Republic Day celebrations, the matter continues to generate speculation and political commentary across the state.
