TRS may take more time to become BRS

It has been more than a month since Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced renaming of his party as Bharat Rasthra Samithi amidst a lot of hype on the auspicious day of Dasara.

Soon after the general body meeting, a letter was sent to the Election Commission by the party’s general secretary informing the election body about the party resolution and requesting to do the needful.

But there has been no progress after the announcement and nobody knows when the TRS will transform into the BRS and KCR will enter the national politics. Everybody in the party is silent on that front.

On Monday, the TRS president sprang a surprise by issuing a public notice in the English newspapers, proposing to change the name of the party into Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

The notice issued in the name of TRS said a resolution was adopted by the party general body meeting to change the name of the party, headquartered at Telangana Bhavan at Banjara Hills, Road No. 10, in Hyderabad, as Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

Accordingly, people who have any objection to the proposed new name, may send their objection with reasons to the Secretary (Political Party), Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road in New Delhi, within 30 days of the publication of the public notice.

Going by the public notice, it is now evident that it will take at least a month’s time for the entire process. After a month, the EC will take its own time in examining the objections, if any, to the name change of TRS into BRS and then take a call.

In the meantime, the EC will be busy in conducting the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, followed by Gujarat. So, it may not take the decision on BRS immediately.

In all probability, it will take a couple of months more to take a call. Till such time, the party will continue to be referred to as TRS only!
