Telangana Jagruti president and former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha took pot shots at her brother and Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao for the latter’s message to men to respect women on International Women’s Day on Sunday.
KTR had posted on X that women should not be viewed only through roles such as mother, sister, or daughter, but must be respected as individuals with equal rights.
He emphasized the need to build a society free of discrimination and to encourage women’s empowerment.
While the message appeared to be a routine Women’s Day greeting, it quickly triggered debate because of recent speculation about Kavitha’s strained relationship with sections of the BRS leadership.
Soon after, Kavitha posted a message stating that discrimination against women persists regardless of the family or environment they are born into.
“The respect for women should begin at home before preaching others,” she said.
Kavitha pointed out that women often face discrimination even from close family members such as fathers, brothers, and husbands, and stressed that respect for women should not be limited to symbolic gestures on Women’s Day but must be practiced every day.
Though she did not directly mention KTR, observers interpreted her comments — particularly the remark that respect for women should begin at home — as an indirect rebuttal.
Political observers say the exchange highlights internal war within the party and the KCR family, which continue to attract public attention.
