Telangana to get new Governor?

If the reports from New Delhi are to be believed, Telangana is likely to get a new Governor very soon in place of Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, who has been holding additional responsibility of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

According to these reports, Tamilisai got a call from the Centre to come to Delhi in a day or two. She might meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah and discuss the plans.

The reports said the Narendra Modi government is contemplating appointing a new Governor to Telangana, in the wake of change of the government in the state headed by Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy.

Though there is no reason for shifting Tamilisai per se, the BJP top leadership is apparently of the view that the state needs a tougher guy to deal with the Revanth Reddy government. It is learnt a retired IAS or retired IPS officer might replace Tamilisai.

The Centre might ask Tamilisai to continue as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry for some more time, though she is interested in returning to active politics. Sources said she is contemplating contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tuthukudi.

“If she doesn’t get the chance as the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections, she might continue as the Puducherry Lt Governor for a year or more,” source said.
