Telangana Cong very weak in 35 seats, says survey

Fresh from the victory in the recent Karnataka assembly elections, the Congress party might look confident of coming to power in Telangana also in the next assembly elections, but its own surveys are learnt to have revealed that it is easier said than done.

A latest survey, made by the team of Mindshare Analytics headed by political strategist Sunil Kanugolu, who has been hired by the Telangana Congress party for the coming elections, has reportedly disclosed that the Congress party is very weak in at least 35 assembly constituencies.

The team, in its report to Telangana PCC president A Revanth Reddy recently, said the party has bleak chances in these 35 constituencies, as there are no strong candidates to contest the elections. Even the party network is weak in these constituencies.

“So, the party has to put in extra effort to win at least 10-15 seats in these 35 constituencies,” the Sunil Kanugolu team alerted the PCC.

It is not immediately known whether these 35 seats include 24 seats in the erstwhile combined Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district.

The Congress doesn’t have even a single seat in these districts and even Sabita Indra Reddy, who won from the Congress ticket in 2018, joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi later.

The report submitted by Sunil team came up for discussion at the PCC political affairs committee meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday.

The committee felt that the party has to devise a strategy to win majority of seats in the areas where the party is weak.

Apparently, it was decided that the party should give the tickets to Backward Classes in at least 14 seats – two per each parliamentary constituency; so as to win the confidence of the BCs. That would fetch a lot of mileage for the party, the PCC leadership said.

It was also decided that the PCC organise a bus yatra all over the state, particularly in the constituencies which are weak. In the first phase, at least 10 senior leaders would go on the tour, party sources said.
