Teenmaar case: National BC panel summons top cop!

Popular political activist and journalist Chintapandu Naveen Kumar alias Teenmaar Mallanna, who is accusing the Telangana government of witch-hunting him by foisting a series of cases against him, got the much-needed support from the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).

Acting on a representation received from Mallanna, NCBC member Talloju Achary on Thursday issued notices on Telangana director general of police M Mahender Reddy and Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar to appear before the commission in its headquarters in New Delhi at 11 am on August 29.

Achary said Mallanna had alleged undue harassment by Telangana police at the behest of the state government and sought a detailed inquiry and appropriate action.

He asked the DGP and the police commissioner to appear in person for a hearing in this regard in the commission and submit an action taken/compliance report through email.

“Please bring up-to-date report/action taken report along with all the relevant documents including the relevant files, case diaries etc and also to bring at least five affidavits to submit replies in the Commission,” the NCBC member said.

He warned that in case, the DGP and the police commissioner did not appear before the commission in person, the commission may exercise the powers of Civil Court conferred under clause (8) of Article 338B of the Constitution of India and issue summons for your appearance in person or by a representative before the Commission.
