Raja Singh to quit politics, if not given BJP ticket

Firebrand MLA from Goshamahal assembly constituency in Hyderabad T Raja Singh on Tuesday made it clear that he would quit politics, if he doesn’t get the ticket from Bharatiya Janata Party to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana.

Raja Singh was suspended last year from the BJP for his alleged blasphemous comments against Prophet Mohammad, while reacting to the permission given for a talk show by stand-up comedian Munawar Farooqui.

He was arrested by the Hyderabad police under Preventive Detention Act and released three months later. Since then, he had been appealing to the party to lift the suspension on him. Even former BJP chief Bandi Sanjay was lobbying for withdrawal of his suspension but in vain.

Apparently, Raja Singh got the hint that he might not get the party ticket from Goshamahal constituency this time. This led to the rumours on social media that he might shift to some other party to try his luck.

However, the MLA made it clear that he would not shift his loyalties to any other party including the Congress or the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

“I am hopeful that the BJP high command would revoke the suspension on me at an appropriate time and give me the party ticket to contest the next elections,” he said.

Raja Singh clarified that if the BJP did not give him the party ticket, he would quit the active politics.

“Let alone joining the Congress or the BRS, I will not contest even as an independent,” he said.

The firebrand MLA said he would strive till his last breath to make Telangana a Hindu rashtra.

“The BRS leadership has kept the Goshamahal ticket pending not for me, but it is waiting for clearance from the AIMIM. It is Asaduddin Owaisi, who will decide the BRS candidate for Goshamahal,” he added.
