PCC chief appointment: Jagga, too, backs VH

A day after senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao raised a banner of revolt against the party high command for deciding to appoint Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief, another leader joined the issue with VH.

Congress legislator from Sangareddy T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy on Saturday cautioned the high command from taking a hasty decision on the appointment of Revanth Reddy as the PCC chief.

In a letter written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, besides AICC in-charge of Telangana affairs Manickam Tagore, the Sangareddy MLA said there was no need to appoint the PCC chief immediately.

“Let existing PCC president Capt N Uttam Reddy be continued in the post till the completion of the process for by-election to Nagarjunasagar assembly seat, which is very crucial for the party to win. After that, depending on the outcome of the by-elections, the party can take a decision,” Jagga Reddy said.

He also suggested that the high command should take the opinions of senior leaders on the selection of PCC chief.

“It has to be done through a consensus among all the leaders. It cannot be a unilateral decision by the high command,” Jagga Reddy said.

Senior PCC leader Mallu Ravi, however, said Manickam Tagore had taken the opinions of as many as 165 leaders and submitted a report to the high command.

“I expressed view that Revanth Reddy should be the PCC chief. What is wrong in it?” he said.

He said all the disciplined party leaders should abide by whatever decision the high command would take. Even in the past, during the appointment of chief ministers or CLP leaders or PCC chiefs, all the party leaders had abided by the high command decisions.

“So far, nobody knows what is there in the report submitted by the AICC in-charges to the high command. It is not appropriate to make comments based on media reports,” Ravi said.
