Backlash On Politician's 'I Want Nayanthara' Remark

Backlash On Politician's 'I Want Nayanthara' Remark

A recent remark by AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam during a protest in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, has sparked strong criticism on social media.

The protest was organised to condemn the DMK government over its handling of rising sexual assault cases in the state.

While addressing the gathering, Shanmugam referred to actress Nayanthara while speaking about Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s statement encouraging people to dream.

He questioned whether Stalin would fulfil any dream people express, even if someone claimed their dream was to marry Nayanthara. The comment quickly drew attention online.

He said in Tamil, "Abdul Kalam asked us to dream. Stalin even said to share our dreams. If I say I want Nayanthara, will he fulfil my dream? If someone asks him to arrange their marriage with Nayanthara, will he fulfil that dream?”

Many social media users criticised the leader for dragging the actress into a political speech.

Several netizens described the remark as disrespectful, pointing out that Nayanthara is married and has children. Some users even urged the actress to publicly condemn the statement.

So far, Nayanthara has not responded to the controversy. Meanwhile, the actress is preparing for a busy year ahead with several films lined up, including projects like Mookuthi Amman 2, Toxic, and NBK 111, along with a few other upcoming releases.
