No arrest of Kavitha at least till Nov end!

Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha is unlikely to face the arrest at least till the coming assembly elections in the state.

Kavitha, who has been facing the questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case, challenged in Supreme Court the summons issued by the ED in March for questioning her in the case.

As the hearing of the case has been going on in the Supreme Court, the ED authorities told the court on Tuesday that Kavitha would not be summoned in the Delhi liquor policy scam the SC completes the hearing on her plea challenging the agency’s summons.

The Supreme Court posted the case for hearing on November 20. So, till such time, Kavitha will not face any summons or threat from the ED. By the time the case is taken up by SC it will be election time in Telangana and Kavitha would definitely seek extension of time for hearing.

In March, Kavitha  moved the Supreme Court against the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons in the Delhi excise policy money laundering case. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha heard her plea of Kavitha.

She sought to know whether a woman could be be called to the office of the Enforcement Directorate. It is completely against the law, her lawyer said.

On March 11, the BRS leader was questioned for hours by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case. In a statement, released earlier, she claimed that she has been summoned by the ED to depose on March 9 "in light of" her proposed hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in support of the women's reservation bill on March 11.

Kavitha said "these tactics of intimidation" against the fight between her father and the BJP would not deter them.

Last week, too, the ED issued summons to Kavitha asking her to appear before it on Friday for questioning. It said it wants to unearth her role in influencing the policy and alleged bribery allegations.

The ED has alleged that Kavitha was in touch with AAP’s communication in-charge Vijay Nair, who had met liquor businessmen and politicians at the time of policy formulation and implementation.
