Mothkupalli to quit BJP, join TRS

Former Telangana minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mothkupalli Narasimhulu is all set to resign from the party and join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Mothkupalli is expected to make an announcement to this effect on Friday. He may join the TRS in a day or two in the presence of TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

A firebrand Dalit leader from Telangana, Mothkupalli has been keeping away from the BJP for the last few days, after he attended the all-party meeting convened by KCR at Pragati Bhavan to discuss the Dalit Bandhu scheme – the CM Dalit empowerment programme launched by the state government.

Though the BJP announced boycott of the all-party meeting, Mothkupalli attended it in his individual capacity. And to the surprise of everybody, he lavished praises on the chief minister for coming up with schemes for the uplift of the Dalits.

“KCR has earned a permanent place in the hearts of the Dalits by taking up various schemes with the inspiration of B R Ambedkar. By holding this all-party meeting, you have honoured the self-respect of Dalits,” he said.

Mothkupalli also appreciated KCR for taking immediate action in the case of lock-up death of a Dalit woman by announcing ex gratia to her kin and government job to her son. “It has enhanced the confidence of Dalits in the TRS government. God bless you forever for striving for the uplift of Dalits,” he said.

In fact, Mothkupalli, who resigned from the Telangana TDP, made an attempt to join the TRS long ago and sent feelers to KCR but the latter did not evince much interest. As a result, he was forced to join the BJP to sustain his political career.

Now that KCR is trying to woo Dalit community keeping in view the forthcoming by-election to Huzurabad assembly seat, he has given a green signal to Mothkupalli, who had not been given any post in the state BJP. And the former minister readily accepted the offer.
