Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s disclosure that Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao requested him to admit the BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) into the National Democratic Alliance in December 2020 created quite a big sensation in the state politics.
While an embarrassing BRS working president K T Rama Rao did his best to give a fitting reply to the Prime Minister immediately, analysts say that the sensational revelation by Modi has done considerable damage to the BRS.
More than anybody else, the Prime Minister’s exposure came as a blessing in disguise for the Congress party, as it lent credence to the talk among the common people that the BJP has a secret understanding with the BRS.
The burying of MLAs’ poaching case registered by the Telangana police and the inaction of the central investigation agencies against KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha have already become talking points for the people about the possibility of a behind-the-screen nexus between the BJP and the BRS.
Now, the Congress leaders have lost no time in utilizing the opportunity to gain political benefits out of Modi’s statement. Congress MP and former AICC president Rahul Gandhi quickly tweeted saying Modi had openly accepted that there was a nexus between the BJP and BRS.
“Today, Modiji has openly accepted what I had said - BRS means BJP Rishtedaar Samiti. The BJP-BRS partnership has destroyed Telangana in the last ten years,” he said on his social media handle.
He said the people were intelligent and had understood their game. “This time, they will reject both of them and form a Congress government with six guarantees,” Rahul said.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy said Modi had once again made it clear there was a Fevicol bond between the BJP and the BRS.
“Both the parties are secret friends and what we have been saying from the beginning about the “Delhi mein dosti, gulli mein kusti” has become true,” he said.
Revanth said it is true that KCR wanted to join NDA, and it is true that he wanted to make KTR the Chief Minister with Modi's blessings and it is still true that Modi and KCR are friends in collusion.
“Truth is like fire and it comes out anytime for sure. The Telangana people should become alert at least now about the BJP - BRS secret bond,” he added.
