As announced a couple of days ago, Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao on Tuesday served a legal notice on Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay for dragging his name in the phone tapping case
He demanded an unconditional apology from Sanjay for making defamatory statements against him, stating that the special intelligence bureau (SIB) was, which was originally constituted to counter Maoist activity, was allegedly misused by KTR for personal and political purposes.
Sanjay said thousands of phones were tapped by the SIB and individuals were falsely linked to Maoists to justify surveillance.
“Even private conversations between spouses were monitored and general public avoided regular calls, preferring encrypted apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, and Signal due to fear. Thousands of phones were tapped including top leaders of the State, High Court Judge, current Chief Minister, KCR's daughter and son-in-law,” Sanjay said.
In his legal notice, KTR said Sanjay had made such statements without any basis or proof whatsoever and misused his status as Union minister to target him.
“Your sole objective is malicious in nature to impute my goodwill and reputation. There is absolutely no proof that KTR is involved in 'phone tapping' issue and he vehemently denies the allegations made by you,” his lawyer said.
By making such defamatory and derogatory statements, KTR said, Sanjay was leaving an impact on the larger public to believe in such false statements and bring disrepute to him and his family.
KTR demanded that Sanjay tender tender an unconditional apology and refrain from engaging in any further malicious or frivolous defamatory acts, directly or indirectly against him and his family members.
“If you fail to comply with the demand within seven days of receipt of the legal notice and continue to make such defamatory statements, I shall initiate legal action against you, including but not limited to civil and criminal,” he threatened.
