Kavitha Gets Clean Chit in Liquor Case: A Boost to Jagruti?

Kavitha Gets Clean Chit in Liquor Case: A Boost to Jagruti?

Telangana Jagruti president and former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha received a major reprieve on Friday after the Rouse Avenue Court dismissed all charges against her in the Delhi excise policy case.

The court, presided over by CBI Special Judge Jitender Singh, ruled that there was insufficient material to proceed against Kavitha and 23 other accused, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The judge observed that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case and noted the absence of credible evidence linking Kavitha to the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

With the dismissal of the charges filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the proceedings against Kavitha now stand closed, marking a decisive legal victory for the Telangana leader.

Kavitha, the daughter of BRS president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, told reporters that she had consistently denied any wrongdoing.

She said the case was politically motivated and that the charges were part of a broader attempt to target regional political forces.

She added that the court’s observation on the lack of substantive evidence could now shape the political narrative surrounding the case.

The judgment is expected to significantly strengthen Kavitha’s political standing. In regional politics, legal vindication often translates into renewed credibility.

The dismissal of charges may help her project herself as a victim of political vendetta, potentially boosting her appeal among party workers and sympathisers.

As president of Telangana Jagruti, Kavitha has maintained strong grassroots networks, particularly among women and cultural groups.

The legal closure could relieve her of prolonged litigation pressure, allowing her to re-engage more actively in mobilisation efforts across districts.

Political observers say the verdict could mark the beginning of a structured political reassertion. They believe the judgment will give a significant boost to the new political party Kavitha is expected to launch in May.

The clean chit removes a major legal hurdle that could have affected credibility, fundraising, and alliance-building.

For Kavitha personally, the verdict brings closure to a prolonged and politically damaging episode. Strategically, it offers her an opportunity to rebuild momentum and potentially redefine her political trajectory in Telangana.
