Harish Rao to engineer split in BRS?

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) headed by former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is heading for a vertical split sooner than later in the wake of the ongoing power struggle in the party involving four major figures, Bharatiya Janata Party floor leader in the Telangana state assembly Alleti Maheshwar Reddy predicted.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the BJP leader said former minister T Harish Rao is leading a faction that is steering the party toward a split.

“Even if 10 MLAs exit the party, the BRS legislative party could disintegrate,” he said.

Maheshwar Reddy pointed out internal rifts among KCR’s family members — K T Rama Rao, Harish Rao and Kavitha were evident following the recent party foundation day meeting, where KTR dominated the proceedings. While Harish Rao and Kavitha were sidelined and given no role, effectively reducing them to mere "dummies."

He said KCR has not been active for various reasons and that his involvement in recent party meetings has been minimal.

“Thus, KCR has informally indicated that KTR will be his successor and that KTR is currently functioning as a de facto president with complete freedom,” the BJP leader said.

Maheshwar Reddy stated that Kavitha has been isolated and that the internal conflict has escalated significantly.

He claimed that the party did not support her initiatives, including setting up statues of Telangana Thalli and social reformer Jyotirao Phule.

He suggested that her recent criticism of the party’s failure on issues like women’s equality and social justice was a strategic move.

“Kavitha has raised concerns over all positions and wealth being handed over solely to KTR,” he said.

The BJP leader said Kavitha is allegedly preparing to make public a letter she wrote to KCR criticizing his decade-long governance.

She feels the Jagruthi organization’s role in the Telangana movement was overlooked and is now determined to reveal the facts, he said.

He claimed that Harish Rao and Kavitha, upset with KTR’s control, have joined hands to initiate a strategic revolt.

Allegedly, KTR is conspiring to suppress Kavitha politically, which became evident when she indirectly blamed her father’s administrative failures on May Day. Her recent statements reflect deep frustration, said Reddy.
