Till the other day, Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders have been saying that former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is their leader and they will all work under his leadership for another 20 years.
In fact, KCR’s nephew and former minister T Harish Rao brushed aside the talk of change of leadership.
“KCR is still active and as such, there is no scope for any discussion on who will succeed him after him,” he said.
But on Tuesday, Harish Rao suddenly changed his tune and indirectly gave the hint that KCR’s son and BRS working president K T Rama Rao may take over the party very soon.
“If the party chooses to pass on the leadership to KTR after KCR, I will wholeheartedly welcome it,” he said.
Harish Rao said as a dedicated worker, he would always follow KCR's and the party's directives.
“I am ready to work under the leadership of KTR and I am fully committed to any such decision taken by KCR,” he said.
The Siddipet MLA also clarified that there are no differences within the BRS. He also rubbished the reports that he would defect to another party.
“They are fake reports and I urge people not to believe such propaganda,” he said, adding that he had already lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding misleading news circulated on social media.
Harish Rao’s statement has kicked up a debate in the party circles and made the cadre wonder whether there is really any plan to hand over the party reins to KTR.
“It appears the party leadership has forced Harish Rao to issue the statement in favour of KTR only to prepare the party cadre for the inevitable change in the leadership,” he said.
