Cong makes last minute bid to stop KCR rally

With the Telangana high court refusing to intervene in the public meeting to be held by Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Halia in Nalgonda town as part of campaign for Nagarjunsagar assembly by-election, the Congress is making last minute attempt to stall the meeting.

Hitherto, Congress candidate and senior leader K Jana Reddy is hoping to win the seat albeit with a lesser margin.

The party leaders are aware that KCR has the capability of turning the tide towards the Telangana Rashtra Samithi with just one public meeting.

So, they are making last ditch efforts to stop KCR coming to Nagarjunasagar. Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy dashed off a letter to Election Commission of India, seeking its immediate intervention in the by–poll, in view of rampant abuse of power and distribution of money by the TRS.

Uttam said unless Covid-19 guidelines of the Election Commission of India are implemented, there is every chance of spread of Covid-19 as thousands of people from local and other places would be mobilized for the public meeting of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao on Wednesday.

He alleged that many non-locals are already camping in the constituency and he wanted that all those who are not natives of Nagarjuna Sagar assembly constituency should be asked to leave the constituency immediately.

EC officials should seize thousands of vehicles being used for the campaign of TRS candidate which do not have permissions and not included in TRS candidate’s election expenditure register.

Urgent action should be taken against violation of ECI guidelines on Covid-19 pandemic. Central forces must be deployed at the check posts and vehicles should be checked for cash and liquor.

“It must be ensured that Covid-19 guidelines are followed strictly in Chief Minister’s public meeting scheduled on April 14,” he said and wondered how ECI could put lives of the people at risk with huge spike in Covid-19 cases in Telangana.
