For decades, Hyderabadis have driven to Andhra Pradesh’s Suryalanka Beach to feel the sea breeze. That weekend ritual may soon be a thing of the past, with Telangana giving the green light to the city’s first artificial beach.
Planned at Kotwal Guda on Hyderabad’s outskirts, the ₹225-crore project will span nearly 35 acres. At its heart will be a man-made lake designed to recreate a beachside atmosphere.
Construction is set to begin in December under a public-private partnership, according to a News18 report.
What To Expect
The artificial beach is envisioned as more than just sand and water. Planned attractions include:
Floating villas and luxury hotels
Adventure sports such as bungee jumping, sailing, skating and even winter games
Parks, cycling tracks, playgrounds and family zones
Theatres, food courts, decorative fountains and a modern wave pool
Officials say the goal is to offer Hyderabadis a complete weekend getaway without leaving the city.
Tourism Push
Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy confirmed that the detailed project report is ready and revealed that international firms are eyeing investments beyond the initial outlay.
He noted that Telangana’s untapped tourism potential is valued at over ₹15,000 crore, spanning heritage, eco-tourism and forts.
The artificial beach, he added, would serve as a flagship attraction, putting Hyderabad firmly on the global tourism map.
Why Kotwal Guda?
Located near the Outer Ring Road, the site offers easy access and room for future expansion. Authorities also stress that environmental safeguards will be prioritised during construction.
If delivered as promised, Hyderabad will no longer carry the tag of being a landlocked city. Instead, it could soon boast a beach destination blending relaxation, adventure and luxury - all within city limits.
