Can RTC workers re-enact 'Million March?'

Remember Million March that was held by the Telangana activists under the banner of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) on March 10, 2011?

The rally, held despite tight security arrangements made by the police to foil it, was a huge success with thousands of people converging on the Tank Bund, destroying the statues of Andhra leaders and dumping them in Hussain Sagar.

It was the peak of the Telangana agitation that ultimately resulted in bifurcation of the state and Telangana Rashtra Samithi headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao coming to power in 2014.

Now with KCR in the chief minister’s seat in the Telangana state, he is facing a similar agitation which he had engineered during the separate state movement.

The Telangana RTC employees, who played a key role in the Million March in 2011, are now back with the same agitation to get their demands resolved.

The RTC unions have given a call for Chalo Tank Bund by the employees on Saturday. Chairman of JAC of RTC unions E Ashwathama Reddy urged RTC employees to turn up in large numbers for the protest and make it another Million March.

“We will consider holding Million March to press for our demands, he said. It may be recollected that the Million March, held in 2011 on the Necklace Road in Hyderabad mobilised public support to the Telangana Separation movement then,” he said.

The police, however, has denied the permission for the rally. Since KCR himself is in power, any such agitation like million march would be an insult to him. So, he will go to any extent to crush the agitation.

Meanwhile, the police are arresting the RTC union leaders ahead of the rally on Saturday. Ashwathama Reddy alleged that it is illegal to arrest the RTC leaders and workers.
