'Veg Meal, Coffee And Arrest'

New Delhi: Assault-accused BJP legislator OP Sharma's encounter with the police, during which he was reportedly treated to a meal before being let off on bail, was derided today by Arvind Kejriwal and his party in a series of sharp tweets.

Mr Sharma was summoned on Thursday by the police, three days after he was seen on camera attacking a Left activist during Monday's violence at a court where arrested JNU student Kanhaiya Kumar was to be produced.

Mr Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, tweeted that "it's not a crime to murder, rape or beat anyone" for those belonging to the ruling BJP.

The BJP lawmaker told reporters yesterday that he was interrogated for more than eight hours. A newspaper report said he was treated to a vegetarian meal from a restaurant and coffee before his arrest and bail.

Mr Kejriwal's Deputy Manish Sisodia tweeted: "Free veg meal from a CP restaurant, several cups of coffee before arrest and letting him off within 15 minutes. VVIP."

Mr Sharma was caught on camera on Monday attacking Left leader Ameeque Jamai, who was seen on the ground with the politician's hands at his throat. Mr Sharma said he had been hit first and then retaliated, both in defense of himself and the country.
