Insect found in chocolate cake from IKEA's Hyd store

Insect found in chocolate cake from IKEA's Hyd store

A customer complained of finding an insect in a chocolate cake which he bought from the food counter at Swedish furniture maker IKEA's Hyderabad store, its first in India.

IKEA has apologised to the customer, and has been fined ₹5,000 by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. This comes after a worm was found in a customer's vegetable biryani last month.

“In our Hyderabad restaurant when a customer was eating a chocolate cake which he bought, a fly was seen on the cake which eventually flew away. We regret this and apologize to our customer for the unfortunate experience. We are taking steps to avoid such occurrences,” a IKEA spokesperson said.

A GHMC health official said samples of the cakes were collected for lab test.

In the earlier instance of caterpillar in biryani, the GHMC served notice to both Ikea and its Nagpur-based food supplier, Haldirams.
