Opinion: News Paper's Missed Deal Worth Rs 300 Cr?

Sometimes, in the haste of venting out discomfort, one would leak some interesting information.

Something similar has happened with a write up in Andhra Jyothy. RK mentioned - "Had there been a cordial relation with the YSRCP government, our news daily would have earned Rs 300 Cr in the form of government advertisements. But still we adhered to our stand and didn't succumb to earning".

Well, RK agreed that the antipathy with the YSRCP government resulted in a  loss of Rs 300 Cr. If that is the case, then it is clear that he earned this sum during the CBN's rule.

Here comes a calculation.

The expenses to run a news daily are growing day by day while the patronage from the people is reducing. Hence many media houses are relying on ePaper. But still AndhraJyothy could run without any break even during the lockdown days of Corona pandemic.

How was that possible?

Either the company should have reserves or might have taken loans. Or else, there should be huge income through the private advertisements. If neither of these three is true, then there should be some unseen hands supporting this daily.

If RK can release the details of his business to the public, the other dailies which are struggling to continue may learn a lesson. As RK ran the daily even without Rs 300 Cr from the government, then it should be understood that he really doesn't need that amount. Had he got that amount, it is obvious that it is nothing but his surplus personal income. So it is left to the imagination how much he might have earned during the TDP regime from the state's exchequer.
