There are statues of three Muslim leaders on Tank Bund: Mahboob Ali Pasha, Salar Jung and Tana Shah. Now a Muslim Party ‘Awami Majlise –Amal Telangana’ has called for the statues to be removed immediately.
It says that having statues of Muslims is against the laws of Islam and a direct attack on Islamic culture and traditions.
The Party said it would campaign against the TRS in the ensuing GHMC elections and also threatened to destroy the statues and throw them in Hussain Sagar if the government did not remove them.
Interestingly, the TRS is no stranger to such kinds of activities. Statues of Andhra leaders on Tank Bund were defaced by Telangana people, led by the TRS during the T-agitation.
Now, it would be interesting to watch how the TRS responds to the plea and threat of this Muslim Party.
