Naidu's missing sandal sends securitymen into a tizzy

Bengaluru: A missing sandal sent Bangalore police into a tizzy on Friday — for the owner was none other than Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Naidu, who was at BJP member of Parliament PC Mohan’s home for breakfast, had left his slippers outside. When he came out, he found his right sandal missing, sparking off a massive hunt by securitymen.

While police sources said Naidu’s sandal was yet to be found, BJP leaders said one of their workers, who was also wearing a similar pair of sandals, inadvertently walked away with Naidu’s footwear.

“The situation was comical,” said a BJP functionary who witnessed the drama.

“The man walked away from Mohan’s house with his own sandal (size 10) on his right foot but Naidu’s (size 11) on the other. That left Naidu with an odd pair.”

BJP sources claimed the man soon realised his mistake and rushed back to return the sandal that was not his.

“However, by then Naidu had put on a spare pair and left,” Mohan said.

Also present at the breakfast were Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda and former CM Jagadish Shettar.
