An eyewitness has attributed the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium to a group of girls who rushed toward a closed gate in an attempt to catch a glimpse of cricketer Virat Kohli.
Their sudden movement reportedly triggered panic among the crowd, causing others to surge forward. Amid the chaos, three girls were knocked down as people jostled to enter the venue.
The eyewitness, identified as Mahesh, said that one of the entry gates was shut, and the commotion began when some girls ran toward it.
“There were many boys waiting outside, but it was the girls who first rushed the gate, which led to the stampede,” he recalled.
Another bystander said, “People nearby managed to rescue four individuals from the stampede. One woman was found in critical condition.”
Mahesh also mentioned that one person was found unconscious and was administered CPR on the spot before being rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died en route.
“Crowd management was poor, and there weren’t enough police officers present to handle the situation,” the eyewitness added.
