Why Naidu, KCR silent on Karnataka?

Why Naidu, KCR silent on Karnataka?

At a time when the assembly election results of Karnataka have become a major talking point across the length and breadth of the country for the last two days, chief ministers of both the Telugu states – N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh and K Chandrasekhar Rao of Telangana – have not uttered a word so far.

Though KCR addressed a press conference on Wednesday night and even spoke about the proposed federal front at length, he did not make any comment on the outcome of the Karnataka assembly elections and the high drama that unfolded subsequently.

Similarly, Naidu also spoke to the media at Devipatnam in East Godavari district where he oversaw the rescue operations of the boat tragedy, but it was not the time for him to talk on Karnataka elections nor did the media persons dare ask any such questions.

Yet, neither KCR nor Naidu issued any statement on the Karnataka election results. The reason was obvious. The results were not in tune with their expectations and any comments made by them would only expose their intentions.

During the electioneering, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi extended support to the JD (S) and gave a call to the people of Karnataka to defeat the Congress party.

His objective was to see that the Congress should not come to power at any cost, since it would have an advere impact on TRS prospects in Telangana next year. He did not mind the BJP, if not JDS, to come to power in Telangana.

As he expected the JD (S) did not emerge as the No. 1 party but retained its own strength. But, contrary to KCR’s wishes, it joined hands with the Congress party to stake claim for power. However, as KCR wished, the BJP had the last laugh.

With regard to Naidu, his party openly gave a call to the people of Karnataka to defeat the BJP and let it not enter the south at all. However, all his hopes were shattered and the BJP came to power.

So, he thought it is better to remain silent for now, because any comment against the BJP at this stage would only complicate his situation, as the Centre is looking to take a revenge on him!
