Why was Sonia Gandhi so eager to grant statehood to Telangana region, despite knowing that it would be wiped out in Seemandhra region?
Ask Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu; and he says the answer is Modi factor. He told media on Tuesday that the Congress had taken the risk of creating Telangana State only due to Modi fear.
He said the Congress was apprehensive of losing in both the regions due to growing popularity of Modi. So, it had thought of protecting its identity at least in Telangana by conceding the separate state demand, he said.
Stating that the Congress was claiming in Telangana region that it had granted statehood to the region respecting the sentiments of the people, Venkaiah said in Seemandhra the same party was claiming that they were forced to concede Telangana State because of BJP pressure tactics. “Why these double standards”, he asked.
Venkaiah further said the special status to the Seemandhra region was provided because of BJP. Had the BJP not demanded, the special status would not have been provided to the Seemandhra, he said, adding that seven States in the country have been demanding special status.
He also alleged that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi were not in Parliament during the debate on Telangana Bill.
The Congress always involved in cheap politics and the people of the country know very well who raised voice on the Telangana Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
