Was timing of Jagan-KCR meeting wrong?

The meeting of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s meeting with Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Monday has raised many an eyebrow.

In the normal circumstances, nobody would have raised any doubts over the meeting, as it is quite common that two chief ministers of neighbouring states meet regularly to sort out any contentious issues pertaining to the two states.

But the timing of Jagan’s visit to Hyderabad and his six-hour marathon meeting with KCR is leading to several doubts.

First of all, there is no hurry in discussing the joint irrigation project on Godavari river to shift waters to Krishna. It has been pending for a long time and in fact, Jagan has dropped it midway to take up his own scheme.

Even if one were to assume that Jagan wants to revive the old proposal, he could have done at a later stage as well, after the dust over the capital relocation settles in his own state.

Similarly, the pending issues pertaining to AP Reorganisation Act are also not new and they cannot be solved overnight.

So, Jagan did not need to come to Hyderabad to discuss these issues at this stage. There must be definitely more to this urgent meeting than what meets the eye.

Apparently, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister had a meeting with KCR to seek suggestions in tackling the agitations against the shifting of executive capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

Besides, Jagan also reportedly sought the advice of KCR on handling the political situation, if the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre creates any hurdle in the capital relocation.

At the same time, both the chief ministers also discussed the fallout of Jagan’s decision on the industrial climate in Andhra Pradesh, it is learnt.

“Otherwise, there are no other major issues that require the immediate attention of both the chief ministers and called for an urgent meeting for over six hours,” sources said.
