To join TDP or not: Butta's confusion!

YSR Congress party MP from Kurnool Butta Renuka is said to be in a Shakespearan dilemma to join or not to join the Telugu Desam Party.

Right from the beginning, there have been doubts over Renuka’s loyalty, as she has been maintaining good relations with the ruling Telugu Desam Party, while continuing to be in the YSR Congress party.

She was the only YSRC leader who attended the National Women’s Parliament in Vijayawada and praised the government’s efforts.

The other day, she conveniently abstained from the YSR Congress party’s parliamentary party meeting held at party headquarters at Lotus Pond in Hyderabad.

Instead, she had a closed door meeting with TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh, son of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in Kurnool.

She later defended her move, stating that she had taken permission to abstain from the MP’s meeting and that she had met Lokesh only to discuss the constituency issues with him. She even said she had no plans whatsoever to quit the YSRC.

However, after the by-elections to Nandyal assembly seat, the attitude of Renuka is learnt to have changed again.

Sources say she is showing interest in joining the TDP, but at the same time, she is in two minds as it might bring a bad name to her in the constituency.

However, the TDP leaders from the district, too, do not have any objection, since she is just a businesswoman with no groups in the district. It is learnt the TDP leadership, too, has given her a green signal.

Apparently, Jagan, too, is not happy with Renuka’s attitude. Even if she continued in the party, he might not give her any ticket in the next elections, because it is better to encourage loyal leaders, rather than those who do not follow the party discipline.
