TDP wins Nandyal Assembly bypoll

A tense atmosphere is prevailing among two major political camps – the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the main opposition YSR Congress party, as the counting for the high-voltage by-elections for Nandyal assembly seat began at 8 am on Monday.

First, the authorities counted the postal ballots. Out of 250 post ballots meant for the government employees, only 39 were polled and all of them were declared invalid as there were no signatures on them.

The counting is taking place at the Nandyal government polytechnic college centre. The media has been kept away from the counting centre to avoid any speculations.

As the reports last came in, the counting for the Nandyal rural segment has begun. It is here, there was a massive percentage of voting. It is believed that the YSR Congress party polled maximum number of votes in this area.

There are in all 19 rounds of counting. The trend would be known by 9.30 am and the final result is expected at around 11 am, say official sources.

It's an expected result. We were confident of victory right from the beginning. We thank people of Nandyal for reposing faith on the ruling party. It's vote for development taken up by Chandrababu Naidu government - Bhuma Akhila Priya, TDP minister and daughter of late MLA Bhuma Nagireddy

It's the victory of money power. TDP leadership pumped in money to lure voters. Besides, there is a sympathy factor in favour of Bhuma family. Nevertheless, I respect the people's verdict - Defeated YSRC candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy
