After dethroning Visakhapatnam mayor through no-confidence motion and sacking Kadapa mayor on the pretext of violation of rules, the Telugu Desam Party is now eyeing the Nellore municipal corporation mayor post.
On Monday, as many as 40 corporators in the Nellore Municipal Corporation, submitted a no-confidence motion against Mayor Sravanti, accusing her of obstructing development works and engaging in corrupt practices.
The notice was formally handed over to Joint Collector Venkateshwarlu on Monday.
The corporators have alleged that the Mayor and her spouse are creating hurdles in every developmental project, have been involved in irregularities that tarnished the government’s image and have ensured that no official files move without their intervention.
On Sunday, a group of corporators met state municipal administration minister Dr P Narayana and lodged a detailed complaint, following which the no-confidence notice was issued.
In the 2021 municipal elections, the YSRCP had won all 54 divisions in Nellore, securing complete control over the corporation.
However, after the party’s severe defeat in the last assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Mayor has reportedly adopted a neutral stance, causing dissatisfaction among party corporators.
They allege that she has failed to focus on the city’s development and has not provided leadership at a time when political clarity and administrative push are required.
The no-confidence motion is expected to intensify political activity within the corporation in the coming days.
