T-Cong Supports KCR On Governor Powers

Telangana Congress leaders on Tuesday opposed the Centre’s move to hand over special powers on Hyderabad to Governor ESL Narasimhan.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, Congress leaders Ponnam Prabhakar, Vivek and Rajaiah flayed the Centre for its decision to hand over special powers to the Governor.

“The Congress party is opposing this decision which is against the spirit of the Constitution”, they said.

They pointed out that AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi had accorded statehood to Telangana and the Telangana Cabinet can take on the issue now. The State Government can take up the issue with the Centre until it withdrew its erratic decision, they said.

Demanding that the Telangana government keep its pre-poll promises, the Telangana Congress leaders took exception to the government’s failure to tide over power crisis, waiver of crop loans, distribution of three acres land to each landless Dalit family and so on.

The Telangana Government should also construct two-bedroom houses for the Dalits, they demanded.
