Shocking Attitude Of Media

As the people of Andhra struggle to come to terms with the loss of lives in Rajahmundry, the reporting by some Television channels has also been really distressing.

They say that the loss of lives is due to the lack of discipline by the pilgrims themselves rather than mismanagement by the Government.

“Even though the same ‘punya’ will result on bathing on any of the twelve days, the pilgrims choose to prefer the first day itself. Had they been disciplined in the queue and exercised self-control, this tragedy could have been avoided,” says one TV channel.

What kind of base reporting is this? Criticizing the victims for their own deaths? Is the government not to blame at all?

In conducting an event like the Pushkarams, the first thing that comes to mind is crowd control as millions of people will turn up.

If people are so disciplined and capable of exercising self-control, then we don’t even need a government in the first place or places like police stations.

By announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs to each victim, the government cannot wash its hands off the matter.

The images of ‘Telugu aadapadachulu’ lying lifeless on the ground will haunt this government for generations to come.
