Sensing Disqualification, TRS MLC Quits Post!

Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLC from Warangal Konda Murali, who defected to the Congress party before the recent assembly elections along with his wife and former minister Konda Surekha, resigned from his post on Saturday.

Murali is one of the four TRS MLCs who had defected to the Congress, the other three being Ramulu Naik, Bhupathi Reddy and Yadava Reddy.

A couple of days ago, legislative council chairman Swamy Goud, following a complaint from the TRS leaders, served them show-cause notices asking them why they should not be disqualified for defecting to the Congress.

Sensing that he might be disqualified anytime, Murali decided to resign. He along with Surekha met the council chairman and submitted his resignation.

Launching a scathing attack on the TRS, Surekha alleged that the ruling party had spent crores of rupees to defeat the candidates who questioned the authoritative regime of TRS president and chief minister KCR.

“To defend me in Parkal, the TRS had spent Rs 50 crore. So is the case with Palakurthy, where TRS candidate Errabelli Dayakar Rao had spent over Rs 60 crore,” she alleged.

On Murali’s resignation, Surekha said her husband had won the MLC seat not because he had contested on the TRS symbol, but because of his own clout in the people.

“Yet, we do not want to stick to the post elected on the TRS ticket. Moreover, he had already declared that he would resign from the post, if the Congress did not win the elections. That is why, he put in his papers today,” she asserted.
