SCS: Will Jagan strategy work out?

SCS: Will Jagan strategy work out?

After keeping silent for over seven months, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy revived the demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

While addressing the Yuva Bheri programme at Anantapur on Tuesday, Jagan vowed that he would continue his fight to mount pressure for achieving the SCS.

He even declared that as a final step, he would ask his party MPs to quit from Parliament in protest. He tried to convince the students and youth that special category status was the only way that can provide jobs to the youth.

“Nobody will come forward to establish industries by seeing the face of Naidu. Investments would pour in only if incentives are given due to special category status to the state,” he said.

As usual, Jagan used the opportunity only to attack Chandrababu Naidu without uttering a word against the NDA government or Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had rejected outright granting of any special category status. He criticized Naidu for saying that SCS was a closed chapter.

However, one doubts whether they are any takers for Jagan’s strategy to rake up the special category status issue now. The last time when he spoke of the subject was almost seven months ago.

After that he has gone silent on the issue and has not talked about it after his meeting with Modi and other Central leaders. He did not even stick to his threat of making his party MPs quit after May.

Since all the other parties including Jana Sena Party of Pawan Kalyan have already dumped the issue, people have almost forgotten about the SCS.

Having seen Jagan’s silence all these days and his lack of courage in attacking Modi for not granting SCS, it is doubtful whether he would get any benefit from raising the issue now.
