The suspension of Telugu Desam Party MLC Vakati Narayana Reddy from the party following the CBI raids on his house for alleged banking fraud to the tune of over Rs 200 crore did not fetch any positive image of party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
In fact, the selection of Vakati as the MLC candidate a couple of months ago itself was opposed by many, as there have been cases against him on financial irregularities.
Several TDP leaders brought to the notice of Naidu that Vakati does not have good image among the people and that he was trying to get the post only to get political support to his financial irregularities.
The opposition YSR Congress party, too, strongly campaigned against Vakati and has almost won the seat, but Vakati spent money like water to purchase rival party voters.
“It was Naidu’s fault in selecting Vakati as the MLC candidate and he has to bear the responsibility of encouraging a fraudster,” a party leader said.
YSRC legislator Kakani Goverdhan welcomed Naidu’s decision to suspend Vakati from the party.
“But Naidu has to take the blame in picking him up as the candidate. If he is sincere, he should also take the same action against other TDP leaders like Sujana Chowdary who is also facing charges of cheating banks of several hundreds of crores of rupees,” he said.
