Rajaiah's Hospital Trips Stump Doctors

Ousted deputy chief minister Dr T Rajaiah's curious walk in and walk out of a corporate hospital in the city left doctors and officials bemused besides keeping them on their toes.

Soon after he reportedly suffered a mild heart attack and his blood sugar levels shot up on Tuesday, the former health minister stunned the hospital staff and left against medical advice (LAMA) late evening, saying he wanted to be with his supporters outside.

He surprised the staff again when he walked into the hospital on Wednesday morning with hundreds of supporters in tow, for undergoing tests to check his blood sugar level, electrocardiogram (ECG) and other tests. He again left the hospital, saying his people needed him, sources said.

Interestingly, on both occasions, his supporters were seen shouting slogans against Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, blaming the latter for Rajaiah’s sudden exit from cabinet and his failing health.

When a doctor asked Rajaiah why he was leaving the hospital against medical advice when he was required to remain under medical observation, the latter reportedly replied, “I want to go to the people”.

But his bonhomie with supporters had to be cut short as he rushed back to the hospital for more tests. “We have now alerted our staff to be ready for sudden VIP visits anytime,” a hospital source said.
