Political circles in Andhra Pradesh are agog with rumours that Telugu Desam Party founder-president N T Rama Rao’s daughter and former union minister Daggubati Purandeshwari is all set to join the YSR Congress party headed by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy sooner or later.
According to these rumours, actress-turned-firebrand legislator of YSR Congress party R K Roja held a lengthy discussion with Purandeshwari in Bengaluru a couple of days ago and convinced the latter to join the YSR Congress party. And Purandeshwari, too, is said to have responded positively to the offer.
While Purandeshwari badly needs a platform to return to active politics, Jagan also needs a leader who has considerable clout in Delhi. He can offer a Lok Sabha ticket to Purandeshwari in the 2019 elections.
Her entry into the YSR Congress would be a moral defeat for Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu who is virtually controlling the NTR family members now.
Purandeshwari has not been feeling very comfortable in the Bharatiya Janata Party, which she had joined after the Congress divided combined Andhra Pradesh.
After joining the BJP, she has lost all her recognition and when she goes to Delhi, nobody bothers to acknowledge her presence.
This is simply because of her anti-Chandrababu Naidu stand and she knows as long as the BJP has an alliance with the TDP, she would not get any prominence in the party or the Central government.
At least, Naidu will not allow her to get any post or position. Hence, she feels the YSR Congress party is the best platform to relaunch herself and get back the glory at Delhi level.
