The allocation of a pittance of Rs 100 crore to the prestigious multi-purpose Polavaram project on Godavari in this year’s Union budget has drawn flak from all quarters – including the ruling Telugu Desam Party and Opposition parties in AP.
For a project of Rs 36,000 crore magnitude, the allocation of Rs 100 crore is nothing but humiliating the people of the State.
Yet, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are defending the budgetary allocation to Polavaram. What is worse, they blame it on Naidu for the poor allocation.
Take for example, the statement of former Union Minister and presently BJP mahila morcha president Daggubati Purandeshwari.
She said the Centre had not paid much attention to Polavaram only because Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had taken up Pattiseema project as part of Polavaram in deviation to the design approved by the Centre.
She has forgotten the fact that Pattiseema is only an off-shoot of the Polavaram canal and does not affect the overall design of the project at all.
It is better Purandeshwari uses her clout with the Centre to get more funds rather than defending the injustice meted out to the State.
