No Cabinet Nod To AP Special Package Yet!

No Cabinet Nod To AP Special Package Yet!

All these days, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been hoodwinking the people that the Centre has granted a hefty special package for development of the state in lieu of special category status.

He and his party leaders have been telling the people that the package has all the benefits that can be accrued from special category status.

It has been nearly six months since this special package has been announced, but so far the benefits of the package have not come to the state yet, since it has not been given the nod by the Union cabinet yet.

The cabinet met several times in the last six months and every time, it has been putting the special package issue on the backburner.

During the recent budget session, finance minister Arun Jaitely promised that it would be included in the agenda of the next cabinet meeting, but it never happened.

On Wednesday, when the Union cabinet met, the AP special package issue was once again ignored much to the disappointment of Naidu.

He is now worried as to why the Centre was adopting delaying tactics in giving cabinet nod to the package. Already he has been under tremendous pressure from the Opposition parties on the special category issue and he thought if the Centre gives the cabinet nod to the package, it would be his face-saving. But so far, there are no such signs.

It is time Naidu takes some serious decisions to bring pressure on the Centre.
