Naidu To Expand Cabinet Shortly

At a time when the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is getting ready to go for early elections in Telangana, the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh is totally unmoved.

On the other hand, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is going ahead to expand his cabinet very soon, notwithstanding the fact that the government will survive only for another eight months.

He told the media on Monday that he would expand his council of minister very soon.

“I would have done it by now. But the sudden death of my brother-in-law and TDP politburo member Nandamuri Harikrishna has delayed the process,” Naidu said.

There are at present two vacancies in the Naidu cabinet, which were created due to resignation of two Bharatiya Janata Party ministers – Kamineni Srinivas and P Manikyala Rao in March this year.

Though there was a talk that he would fill them up immediately, he took a long time in the name of fighting against the Centre.

Very recently, he announced at the meeting of Muslims at Guntur that he would soon take a Muslim into the cabinet. In all probability, MLC Mohammad Sharif would be inducted into the cabinet.

In another vacancy, he may take a woman MLA or a Kapu MLA, so as to appease these sections, party sources said.

In any case, the cabinet expansion might happen next week, a few days before the Vinayaka Chavithi festival, sources added.
