Former MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan, a key leader in the united Prakasam district, who resigned from the YSRCP, weeks before the AP assembly elections in 2024, is believed to be evincing interest in returning to the party, provided he gets due recognition.
Amanchi, resigned from the YSRCP after he was denied the party ticket to contest from Chirala assembly constituency in the assembly elections, as party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy preferred to field senior leader Karanam Balaram's son, Karanam Venkatesh.
He also tried for the party ticket from at least Parchur, where he previously served as the in-charge, but Jagan preferred to allot the party ticket to Yedam Balaji.
As a result, Amanchi quit the party after holding discussions with his supporters. He later joined the Congress and was made the party president of Prakasam district.
According to party sources, Amanchi recently met former minister Ambati Rambabu and conveyed to the YSRCP leadership that he would be willing to join the party if he is given the opportunity to contest from the Chirala constituency in the next elections.
Currently, the Karanam family, which is in charge of the YSRCP’s activities in Chirala, has not been very active.
There are indications that Jagan Mohan Reddy may consider shifting Karanam Venkatesh to the Addanki constituency, which could create an opening for Amanchi in Chirala.
Sources say the YSRCP leadership has already communicated this possibility to Amanchi through some district leaders. However, Amanchi is reportedly waiting for an appropriate time to formally rejoin the party.
For some time, there had also been speculation that Amanchi might join the Jana Sena Party, but it appears unlikely as the coalition parties are said to prefer their own candidates for the Chirala seat.
Meanwhile, two other senior leaders from the undivided Chittoor, Nellore, and Anantapur districts, who had earlier left the YSRCP, are also reportedly preparing to rejoin the party.
