Naidu Cabinet Expansion, Not Now?

Naidu Cabinet Expansion, Not Now?

With the talk that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would induct his son and Telugu Desam Party national general secretary Nara Lokesh Naidu into the State Cabinet doing rounds strongly, there were a lot of hopes among the TDP legislators for a probable berth in the Cabinet.

According to sources, Naidu, too, was contemplating expansion and reshuffle of his Cabinet after Ugadi festival on April 8. Apparently, he did some preliminary exercise. However, for reasons known only to him, he put a halt to exercise.

Since there are no auspicious days for the next three or four months, the Chief Minister might not take up any reshuffle or expansion immediately, sources said.

May be, Naidu is worried about the backlash he might receive politically by taking up Cabinet expansion only for his son. Or he might also be hesitant to do it now because there are too many aspirants including those who had defected from the YSR Congress party.

Indications are that he would first fill up the vacancies in various government corporations to reduce the competition for Cabinet berths and later go in for expansion. In any case, Naidu’s decision has caused severe disappointment for the Cabinet berth aspirants!
