Nagender to quit seat, Kadiyam in dilemma

Reports from New Delhi suggest that Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender; who recently crossed over from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress; is likely to resign from the assembly within the next couple of days to pre-empt a possible disqualification.

According to senior Congress leaders and members of Nagender’s inner circle, he has concluded that stepping down is the safest way to safeguard his political future.

He is preparing to resign and contest the resulting byelection, with a formal announcement expected within the next three days.

His trip to Delhi on Friday triggered a new wave of speculation within the party and among legislators.

Speculation has also intensified around Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari, who is facing notices over his defection.

Srihari is said to be weighing two options: filing an affidavit without giving up his seat or resigning ahead of a decision by the Speaker.

The former deputy chief minister met Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar at his residence on Friday to seek more time to respond.

While his camp has not confirmed any move, sources indicated he may tender his resignation in the coming days.

Political observers expect significant developments in both constituencies before November 26.

Hearings related to eight defected MLAs have already concluded, but both Nagender and Srihari are yet to submit their affidavits or formal responses to the petitions filed by BRS legislators challenging their switch to the ruling party.

Nagender’s Delhi visit is believed to have been aimed at securing an assurance of the Congress ticket for the byelection, though there is no official word on whom he met.

Srihari faces an additional complication: despite being elected on a BRS ticket, he reportedly signed as a proposer for his daughter Kadiyam Kavya, who won the Warangal Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket.

This action is now being examined as a potential ground for disqualification. With pressure mounting, he is expected to take a final call within the next three to four days.

Congress insiders said that if both MLAs step down, the byelections could be scheduled alongside the assembly polls in Tamil Nadu or Kerala, allowing the party to simultaneously conduct local body and urban civic elections, including the GHMC polls.
