It is well known that Donald Trump, the American president, has been playing with the emotions of Indians by befriending Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, who orchestrated the blatant terrorist attack at Pahalgam in India.
However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has remained silent on those developments. Even in a recent public address in Odisha, he stated that Donald Trump had invited him to the White House with a lot of affection, but he humbly declined with equal love as he had to attend the Odisha meeting and address his people.
In fact, many assumed that Modi shunned Trump’s invitation because he was upset with Trump’s newly blossomed friendship with Pakistan. But many interpreted a subtler message behind his words.
Today, however, Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian following the US strikes on nuclear sites.
This is certainly an irksome tit-for-tat move — an assumed friend siding with an enemy can be upsetting, and now Modi appears to be giving Trump a taste of his own medicine.
PM Modi confirmed this in a post on X, stating- “Spoke with the President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed the current situation in detail, expressed deep concern over the recent escalations, and reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as the way forward — as well as for the early restoration of regional peace, security, and stability.”
Meanwhile, many American citizens openly express their discontent over the United States’ aggression on Iranian soil. The president who once complained about not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is now waging war against Iran.
Trump is successfully dismantling America’s diplomatic relationships with the rest of the world through volatile and aggressive decisions. Only time will tell the consequences, as many American citizens fear.
Meanwhile, many Indians are urging Modi to take credit for any future de‑escalation between Iran and the US — as a tit‑for‑tat response to Trump’s claim that he brought peace between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindhoor.
