MLA's remark that I drink daily a publicity stunt

Reacting to a Maharashtra MLA's comments that she drinks every day, Mathura MP Hema Malini has dubbed the remarks a publicity stunt and said she did not wish to enter the controversy.

Bacchu Kadu, independent MLA from Achalpur in Maharashtra made the remarks while taking about farmers' suicides.

He said that while some people linked farmers' suicides to alcoholism, the connection did not exist. The MLA then said that lawmakers, including Hema Malini, drank alcohol every day but had not committed suicide.

In response, Mathura MP and BJP leader Malini said that her name had been taken by the MP to derive mileage and get some publicity.

"God help him," the veteran Bollywood actress said, while refusing to join issue with the MLA over his statement.

Bacchu Kadu, also known as Omprakash Babarao Kadu, has been surrounded by controversy in the past as well.

In December 2006, Kadu reportedly climbed an overhead water tank with his supporters and threatened to jump - in a scene drawn from the Hema Malini-starrer 'Sholay' - if the police apprehended them.
