MIM to expand its wings to Andhra as well?

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which has hitherto been confined mostly to Old City of Hyderabad, besides a few parts of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, is now planning to expand its wings to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh as well.

This is learnt to have been decided by MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi during a recent party meeting.

He is learnt to have told the party leaders that the MIM would contest the assembly elections and even municipal elections in parts of Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa and even Guntur, where there is a sizeable Mulsim population.

During the Telagnana agitation, the MIM chief advocated formation of Rayala Telangana, with the merger of two Rayalaseema districts with Telangana, since it would have considerable Muslim electorate that would be advantageous to his party.

Now that the Telangana has become separate, Owaisi wants to spread his party to the same Rayalaseema districts.

At present, the MIM tested its fortunes in Maharashtra and Bihar and established its presence. It is now contesting the UP electiions. Subsequently, it would move to Andhra by contesting the municipal elections first and then in Assembly elections in 2019.
